Dr Claire Rycroft

Hi I'm Claire.

I’ve been a Registered Clinical Psychologist since 2016, but my path into this work began long before that. Since 2008, I’ve worked across the NHS, prisons, and secure hospitals, and I was struck by how often people felt unseen, unheard, or overwhelmed by their own histories. Those experiences taught me how powerful it can be when someone finally feels understood.

My work is guided by my values of compassion, curiosity, and a deep respect for each person’s story. I believe therapy should feel safe, collaborative, and grounded in genuine human connection — not something done to you, but something we navigate together.

I’ve supported adults with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, and I’ve seen how trauma, grief and loss, attachment experiences, and relationship patterns can shape a person’s life. Helping people make sense of these experiences — and reconnect with their own strength — is at the heart of my practice.

Alongside my therapeutic work, I draw on my extensive experience in forensic and secure settings to provide psychological risk assessments for Parole Board hearings and the courts. I also offer clinical supervision and bespoke training packages, supporting practitioners and organisations to develop thoughtful, trauma‑informed, formulation‑led approaches to their work.

Whether I’m working with individuals or within wider systems, my focus is on providing compassion, clarity, and a deep respect for people’s experiences, supporting thoughtful understanding and informed decision‑making.
